Red tuna sanctuary in Baleares

(28-11-09)  Greenpeace has asked the Ministry of Environment for listening to the citizens of the Balearic Islands, and declare the Balearic sanctuary of bluefin tuna.

Red tuna sanctuary in BalearesPalma Aquarium has started the Campaign for the Conservation of bluefin tuna supported by companies, institutions, organizations and scientists that help make known the real situation of this emblematic species. Celia Ojeda, representative of Greenpeace Spain has visited Mallorca to spread the very serious situation bluefin tuna faces, and the need to take immediate actions to protect it.

“The outreach work that Palma Aquarium is doing is very important; they are getting this unknown species close to citizens and helping know why it has to be protected”, Celia Ojeda, responsible for Oceans Campaign of Greenpeace Spain, has said.

The campaign of Palma Aquarium will have a series of conferences in which bluefin tuna will be the star. The first guess and responsible for opening these conferences is Celia Ojeda, who has explained the importance of bluefin tuna in the atrophic chain, has shown the situation the species is facing and has stated the reasons for having arrived to this serious situation.
