(Press release / 19-05-10) About thirty AnimaNaturalis activists protested against the in force and still active seal hunting in Canada, in the heart of Valencia (Spain).
Some activists, playing as seals, were beaten, killed and skinned by other activists playing the hunters, in an impressive scene that called for reflection on the annual slaughter of marine mammals, considered the largest in history.
Seal hunting in 2010 could reach a record. The Government of Canada has increased the legal quota to 388,200 specimens. The Canadian authorities say that neither animals suffer or the species is endangered.
While this week the European Union began a debate on a ban on products from this massacre, international organizations for animal protection remember that the main reason why they are still killing these animals is not their skin, fat or meat but because they represent competition for fishermen catching fish and seafood.
This is unacceptable from any point of view and AnimaNaturalis will continue denouncing these acts, and at the same time they make a call to the public not to consume products with Canadian origin.
